Jungle Jim Meets WW II

Like other of the groups in this series, this is a schizophrenic group of shows. The first ones conclude a typically complex story arc, where rough tough Nazi sympathiser Wolf Larsen, who has been providing German subs a sanctuary off the coast of Puerto Rico, is taken down by Jim, with the usual excellent help from a disgusied Shanghai Lil. Jim's other gal pal, Kitty St John, stays out of the action, except when required to mess up a plan, or get in a cat fight with Lil. (The cat fights are rather fun). Later, Jim joins the armed forces, after getting shipwrecked (yet again), and says tender goodbyes to Lil. And then... The show changes its format -- going from long serials to self-contained episodes, a rather rinky-dink sounding organ (replacing the canned classical music), and a some rather cheesy episodes. By the time of the last episode of the set (alrmingly named the death of Jungle Jim), we have Kolu and Jim, wandering the byways of the good old USA (without Shanghai Lil) finding Jap spies and assassins in less than 15 minutes an episode. Listening to the last ten or so of these, one gets the feel of a series going into embarassing decline. Which makes the fifth set of these episodes a real nice surprise...
