Harper's Young People is an illustrated weekly publication for children that includes short stories, tales from history, natural history, poetry, puzzles, and other fun. This 42nd issue of the serial was published on August 17th, 1880. In this issue, "The Moral Pirates" go diving to recover lost gear and later confront a huge nighttime intruder in camp; a harrowing account is given of a legendary and bloody conflict between Indians and colonialists in "Old Times in the Colonies"; and the story of "The Roverings at Coney Island" tells the amusing tale of a family's attempted daytrip to the beach that results in misadventure and a missed lunch.
